Department of education officials have targeted early childhood special education programs for possible budget cuts. As a result, fewer Missouri children would be eligible for early childhood special education programs.

Melodie Friedeback, assistant commissioner of Missouri's special education division, says that the special education programs would be offered to children with disabilities not those with developmental delays like speech disorders.

The state's department of education will not cut these programs if their budget doesn't get cut this spring. From the state Capitol, I'm Christine McCarty.
