The Missouri Mutual Insurance Company Act will help better insure doctors in malpractice suits. Matt Johnson tells how support is growing.
The state now has only one company protecting doctors in malpractice suits due to financial struggles in the industry.
Republican Senator Anita Yeckel introduced the legislation three years ago, but saw no progress. This year, she says her confidence in the success of the measure has grown.
"I know the governor is willing to carve out the doctors because doctors have lots of money and they donate, so he's willing to do that...but he isn't really willing to do venue change...and it's almost an integral part of solving this problem."
The measure combines two senate bills regarding the suits.
Yeckel expects no oppositon to the measure.
