With the session deadline looming, a Democratic filibuster has forced Republican leadership to shelve the bill, for now.

The bill sponsor, and Saint Louis County Republican John Loudon said pressure from conservative groups, as well as the public make passing the bill a priority.

Contents: The people of Missouri through the elected representives have created a solid pro-life Capitol building. And for them to fail to deliver anything would be very disappointing.

Opponents say that, if passed, Saint Louis would be the only location in Missouri at which a woman could get an abortion.

Saint Louis Democratic Senator Joan Bray has said she will resume the filibuster when, or if, the bill hits the floor.

The filibuster forced Republican leadership to shelve the bill to attend to other legislative business before the end of session.

Under the bill, doctors would only be able to perform abortions within thirty miles of a hospital at which they can operate.

The bill would also allow parents to sue anyone helping their pregnant daughter get an abortion without their consent.

Republican Saint Louis County Senator John Loudon sponsored the bill.

Contents: Now they seem suddenly invigorated with the last couple days of session and the finish line straight ahead -- that can have a way of exciting one's levels to fight.

Saint Louis County Senator Joan Bray who lead the filibuster says the bill would restrict abortion services only to Saint Louis, and that it is one part of a larger Republican plan to make abortions illegal in Missouri.

She says that if the bill is taken up again, she will continue the filibuster.

From the state Capitol, I'm Tim Carnahan.
