With waters rising, prices drop

Date: May 8, 2007
By: Cliff Ainsworth
State Capitol Bureau

Intro: As the Missouri River's waters rose Tuesday, customers took advantage of falling prices at a nearby lumberyard in Jefferson City.  Cliff Ainsworth has more from the state Capital.

OutCue: SOC

At Hood's lumber yard along the Missouri River in Jefferson City, whatever isn't sold will probably be floating down the river in a few days.

With the river's waters rising nearby, lumber at Hood's was fifty percent off and floor tiles were selling for one cent each.

John Cornett of Jamestown was found loading windows into a pick-up truck.  This wasn't the first time he had seen prices drop before a natural disaster.

Actuality:  FLOOD2.WAV

Run Time: 00:13

Description: I've been in hurricane areas, so the devastation afterwards is always the worst thing.  But buying frenzies before; people buying up water and candles and things like that.

The National Weather Service says the river will reach major flood stage on Thursday.

From the Capital, I'm Cliff Ainsworth.
