Governor Nixon stops short of saying he'll veto a bill containing vouchers for students to transfer to private schools
Wrap: Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon rebuked Assembly Republicans for including a provision that allows public tax dollars to be used for kids to transfer to a private school.
Nixon announced his opposition during a Tuesday afternoon press conference.
|Description: "Such a step, using public money for private schools, would destabilize the strong foundation on which public education has stood for generations and open the floodgates to even more radical voucher schemes down the road."|
The legislature has until Friday at 6 p.m. to pass a bill and get it to the governor's desk.
