Elisa Crouch

I am a senior at the University of Missouri-Columbia who's persuing degrees in newspaper journalism and political science. I'd love to graduate with an emphasis in art history, but I don't want to be here forever.

This semester I'm spending a good chunk of my time as an assistant bureau chief at the Columbia Missourian's Jefferson City Bureau. In addition to writing several stories a week related to state government, I help my editor edit and instruct the students who have state government as their beat. So far this is my third semester of state government reporting.

Last year I covered the trial and impeachment of former Missouri Secretary of State Judi Moriarty, and then went on to cover the Missouri Legislature. But my journalism experience doesn't stop there. For the past two years, I have spent my summers and Christmas breaks doing general assignment reporting for my hometown newspaper, the St. Joseph News-Press. I'm hoping this summer to go someplace different.

As far as graduation goes, I'll be in school until May 1997, since I'm working toward a dual degree. My goal after that is to find a reporting job at a newspaper, preferably as a government reporter. However, with newspapers shutting down and laying off employees, I'll take what I can get.
