Driver's license pictures for the media only

March 2, 1999

A Senate committee is allowing the media to have access to your driver's license picture. Princess Reyes has this story from Jefferson City:

A Senate committee approved a bill to block public access to your driver's license pictures.

But they added an exemption -- for reporters.

That was added at the request of Doug Crews who the executive director of the Missouri Press Association:

Actuality:crews.wav
RunTime: 11 secs
OutCue:
Contents: Crews says media agencies are the eyes and ears of the public so these photographs should be available to the press.

Under Crews' amendment approved by the committee, journalists will get to see your drivers license picture -- but almost nobody else.
